Hello all you lovely LLK Fans (or soon-to-be!). It’s my turn on the Winnie Pinnie blog tour and I’m so excited about it! I was actually signed up to test this lovely pattern, but it happened to be the week that Jason’s grandpa passed away and we hopped in the car to drive to NY for the funeral! I’m glad we were able to spend that time with family, but I was so bummed that I had to back out of the test – so I’m making up for it now!
This dress is just sweeter than candy. I really love the clean lines and the simplicity of the pattern, and then BAM. There’s this stunning cut-out in the back. I was all heart-eyes throughout this shoot with Maci, and even more so while editing the photos. As Cassie explained over on the LLK blog, the dress has a vintage-inspired vibe, and I’m diggin’ it! And I don’t think I’m the only one! 🙂
It was so obvious how much Maci loved this dress! First, she flat out told me she loved it. So there’s that. But, she was also pulling out all kinds of poses, and faces, and twirls the whole time she was wearing it! She was beaming! Can you blame her? One thing I adore about this dress is the full skirt. Before I read the tutorial, I was planning on cutting the skirt pieces width-of-fabric because I wanted a nice, full skirt. Well guess what? That’s basically what the pattern called for in Maci’s size (size 7). Perfect! Maci was swishing the skirt around and twirling endlessly.
I really loved the pattern and design of this dress as-is (Cassie did an amazing job!) so I didn’t make any major modifications to Maci’s! The only change I made was using Kam Snaps instead of buttons on the back bodice. The pattern calls for 1 button for the top tab, and 1 button for the bottom. I used 2 size 20 Kam Snaps on each tab instead! I love the look and the back bodice is held securely in place and those tabs are lined up perfectly! I tried the dress on Maci before placing the snaps so I could get a customized fit. I love the way it turned out!
