Pattern Test: P4P Sweet Tee & Sugar Pie

Patterns for Pirates Sweet Tee & Sugar Pie

Hello my lovely sewists! Judy of Patterns for Pirates has released two fabulous patterns today that I have been dying to share with you. These slim dolman-style shirts are so easy and quick to sew up, look amazing on everyone, and you can easily change the look based on fabric choice! With all of the included sleeve & length options, you could fill your wardrobe with Sweet Tees & Sugar Pies for every day of the week. This pattern is such a versatile one for the girls, but I think it is especially great as a “momiform” staple! It is comfortable, practical, and casual – perfect for mommy duties; but can also be dressed up for a date night out! (see this post Judy did for a visual fit comparison of P4P’s tops) Read on for pattern info, a photo overload, and of course – release sale details!

I had the pleasure of testing the girl’s size 6 for Maci, and the 9 month on my friend Lindsay’s baby again! This top is just perfection in every size. For the 9 month top, I made the short sleeve version, with the t-shirt neckband, and the Short Waistband. All fabric pictured in this post is from Riley Blake’s Idle Wild collection.

For Maci’s size 6, I made the 3/4 sleeve, t-shirt neckband, with the tall waistband. I love the cute, roomy fit, and I especially love that tall waistband! So much booty coverage! 🙂

I know I have mentioned before how much I love that “Mommy & Me style” is a thing! But I’ll say it again – I love it! Yeah, maybe it’s kind of [super] nerdy.. but it’s so great how excited Maci gets about having a twinner shirt with mommy! I will soak up every single minute of it. I am fully aware that there will come a time when she will cringe at the thought of matching me, or even being seen with me, so you better believe that I will enjoy this stage as long as it lasts!

Here are the details for the women’s Sweet Tee:

Sizes XXS-3X Plus

Short, 3/4, or Long Sleeve

Slim Dolman style shirt or dress

Curved hem, Short Waistband, or Long Waistband

For my shirt, I did short sleeve, t-shirt neckband, with a tall waistband.

My body is weird shaped – kind of rectangly and not-so-much hourglassy. I should have graded my pattern out one size bigger at the waist to get the correct fit and look for my Sweet Tee. Typically, I don’t bother to blend the sizes, especially with a knit shirt, which is forgiving. BUT, that is why my shirt looks a little more snug than intended! So just a heads up on that. Judy has some really great posts on how to take your measurements and how to make adjustments to your patterns to get the right fit for your height. And isn’t that the best part about sewing – being able to customize your clothing to fit your body!? I really need to get better about actually adjusting my patterns!

The Sweet Tee is just so easy to wear, and can be made and styled a million different ways. The dolman style is perfect for a clothes-sewing-newbie because you don’t have to set the sleeve in – it’s cut as part of the shirt! Again, I love the booty coverage of the tall waistband, and plan on making more to wear with leggings while we transition into Spring weather! This shirt will definitely be a Spring/Summer wardrobe staple for both Maci and I!

And now for the regular overdose of pictures.. 🙂
