Pattern Test: Love Notions Summer Caye

Hey guys! Things have been really crazy around here lately. Some of you may know that I have Hashimoto’s disease, which is “an autoimmune disease causing chronic inflammation and consequential failure of the thyroid gland”. One of the worst symptoms (for me) is the extreme exhaustion and fatigue! I’m not mentioning this so you’ll feel bad for me, but I just want to let you know I’ll be slowing down around here for a little while! I still have some recent projects to share, and I’ll be working on a couple things here and there for the next few weeks! I’m going to do some planning, re-organizing, and prioritizing and come back hopefully refreshed and energized!

With that said, I’m here to share with you a couple of great new patterns that were just released today from Love Notions! And this is actually my first post as a member of the Love Notions Promo Team, which means that I receive compensation for testing, photographing, and promoting the pattern(s). Although, I wouldn’t have even considered being a part of the promo team if I didn’t already love Tami’s patterns and feel 100% confident in the quality of her work! Without further delay, I present you with the Ladie’s & Girl’s Summer Caye.

The Summer Caye pattern has so many wonderful options are will definitely be a Spring & Summer staple around here! There are options for shorts with a 6″ or 9″ inseam for the ladies, and a 4″ or 6″ inseam for the girls. There is also an option for capri’s or full length pants as well! For the pants, you can choose a standard wide leg, or palazzo leg. (mine are palazzo). They are designed to be sewn in a lightweight woven, like rayon challis or chambray. You can also sew them up in a knit for a more casual look! With different styling, this pattern can easily take you from super comfy & casual, to still comfy but dressed up! I love a pattern that is versatile and can work in many situations!

For Maci’s pants, I used a lightweight rayon challis that I picked up at a Spot the Bolt sale at Hancock Fabrics (before they announced they were closing doors!). They are so flowy and comfortable, and not to mention adorable! The cheetah print fits her SASS perfectly! 🙂 Or as she would say “cheeto print”! For my pants, I have absolutely no clue what the fabric content is! It a little more of a stable woven, but I thought it would look great with this pattern. I envisioned a little more of a dressed up palazzo for mine, but I will definitely be making myself some comfy, flowy pants as well! Many of the other testers made the capris or shorts lengths, and I LOVE THEM. They are so flattering and look very comfortable. I can’t wait to try them!

Can you tell how much we love our pants!? I honestly wasn’t sure if I could pull off the style, but I really love them! I wore mine with a pair of wedges and I love the look, especially the deep hem. Maci’s pants originally had a split hem, which was adorable, but I ended up having to hem them an additional 3″ and now the spit hem is gone!

Love Notions Patterns are some of the best, most well-thought-out PDF patterns available. I say this for many reasons. The PDF itself is fully responsive, so there are clickable links within the PDF that will take you to different pages or sections of the file. It makes navigation a breeze, especially if you read the instructions from your smartphone or tablet like I do! You don’t have to scroll through to try to find what you’re looking for. There are also many tips included on sewing with knits, and some really valuable information about fitting and blending sizes. There are also troubleshooting tips if you are having fit issues! I had to do quite a bit of grading to fit my odd measurements, and the included tips really helped. There is a page printing guide which will tell you exactly which pages to print for the options you choose, so you can save paper and ink by not printing the pages you don’t need! The pattern pages are also layered, and trimless. As if that wasn’t enough, Tami also includes a copy shop version that you can send to your local printer and have it printed on a single 36″ x 90″ page (no taping pages together!). Make sure to have them print B&W & 100% scale.
