Hello and thanks for stopping by for the Spring Break PJ Party blog tour! In all reality, Spring Break here isn’t until next week… but that won’t stop us from partying with everyone anyways! 🙂 I’ve got a little bit of a different post than most of the other stops on the tour. This is the Spring Break PJ Party – Newborn Edition! So keep reading for some cute, TINY little PJ’s, squishy newborn cuteness, and of course we can’t forget the discounts and giveaways from our lovely blog tour sponsors!
This little nugget, Coby, is my very first nephew! He was born this past Saturday, and I was honored to be in the room & photograph my sister’s labor and delivery, and this precious guy’s first moments out of the womb! Being part of a delivery is an experience like no other! I have given birth 3 times, but it’s so different when somebody else is doing the pushing. Firstly, I have to give my sister a huge shout out for doing the whole thing without an epidural – what a rockstar! I’m a wimp and I love my epidurals 🙂 Secondly, isn’t this boy just adorable? Maybe I’m biased as the proud auntie, but I think he is a keeper for sure. I mean, look at that hair! #allthehearteyes
Sewing for newborns is so fun, because everything is just so adorably TINY! When my first child and first niece were born, there really weren’t many newborn PDF patterns on the market. How that has changed! There is such a huge selection available now that it can be so hard to choose. Several patterns even come in preemie sizes, which is handy since all 3 of Coby’s big sisters were preemie sized at birth! For Coby’s Batman PJ’s, I used the Lullaby Line Baby Gown pattern from Peekaboo Pattern Shop(PAB). The Lullaby Line is an amazing collection of PDF patterns for staple baby items. PAB’s patterns are always well drafted, extensively tested, have clear instructions, and always fit well. The baby gown is drafted for sizes Preemie through 6 months, but most of the Lullaby Line patterns go up to 4T.
The gown is perfect for the first bit of baby’s life for many reasons. You don’t have to fumble around with zippers, snaps, or buttons for those super fun middle-of-the-night diaper changes. The bottom of the gown has eleastic that allows you to just pull the gown up for diaper changes. The lap-shoulder design also makes it easier to get over baby’s head without too much of a struggle. My children all have enormous heads, so the lap-shoulder is a MUST. In my opinion, the best feature of this gown pattern is the built-in scratch mitt option. If you’ve ever been around a newborn, you know they can’t control their hand/arm movements and their startle reflex often causes them to claw their faces! These mitts will help keep baby’s face scratch free, and they weren’t hard to sew in either!
My sister also pointed out that most baby gowns available at retail stores come in one size: 0-6 months. That is a huge range and basically means that a newborn will be swimming in it unless they are giant! 🙂 It’s great to be able to make the gown in a size that will fit an actual newborn. If you have a baby, are expecting a baby, or like to create handmade baby gifts for friends and family, I fully recommend this Baby Gown pattern, or any other pattern from the Lullaby Line! (including the snap PJ’s which I had the opportunity to test on my little man a while back)
