Sew Ready For Fall

Sew Ready for Fall Blog Tour Made by Melli

I was delighted when Sewing By Ti invited me to be a part of the Sew Ready for Fall blog tour! Fall is my absolute favorite season for so many reasons! I love the changing leaves, the perfectly mild weather, and the beginning of the holiday season! School starts for the kids and we (hopefully) get into a routine. And what could possibly be better than cozy fall clothing – hoodies, cardigans, tunics, and leggings!? Nothing.. nothing is better!

Stylish Fabric sponsored this blog tour, and generously provided each blogger in the tour with fabric to create our fall looks! They have an amazingly large selection of fabric, with almost any kind of apparel fabric you could possibly want! Of course, this made my fabric decision very difficult! I kept going back and forth between french terry, sweater knits, rayon spandex, etc. This amazing chevron patterned sequined jersey knit jumped out at me immediately and I just couldn’t get it out of my head, so I went for it! I haven’t worked with sequin fabric very much, but I just dove right in – cut as usual, sewed up as usual, hemmed as usual, and it turned out great! 🙂 I will probably order more, especially because it comes in so many amazing colors!

In addition to having such a vast selection of fabric, their prices are amazing! When prices are this good, you sometimes worry about quality. I was very happy with the quality of the fabric I received and can’t wait to order more! Make sure to check out Stylish Fabric at all of their social media outlets!

As a busy stay-at-home mom who wears many hats, my wardobe HAS to be comfortable and functional above all else. If it happens to be stylish, that’s just a bonus 😉 I have to be able to comfortably walk, bend over, change diapers, sit cross-legged on the floor, take photographs, drive around, cook, sew, etc in my clothing. On the chance that I have to actually be seen in public, it’s definitely a good thing if my comfy clothes happen to be cute, too! For all of these reasons, I basically live in leggings and tunics.

Sewing an outfit that would transition from Summer to Fall was a fun challenge! I decided to sew up one of my favorite tunics – the Mama Mya from Made for Mermaids.  I adore the fit of this tunic. The neckline is modest enough that there is no need for an undershirt, which is perfect for those warm days where you want to limit the layers. I thought the 3/4 sleeves were a perfect compromise between too hot and too cool, which basically makes this a perfect transitional piece! The curved hem tunic length is nothing short of perfection for pairing with leggings! It provides the right amount of coverage in the front and back to still be modest and comfortable. I can bend over to pick up the food my baby throws all over the floor, and not worry about anybody getting too much of a view!  The Mama Mya is slightly fitted at the bust, and flows out in a beautiful a-line shape. It’s modest, comfy, and flattering! Check, check, check.

These are made in an amazingly soft black brushed poly from So Sew English. And want to know a secret? They are cropped length leggings (perfect for summer!!) but I wore them with a tall pair of socks and my favorite fall boots! Again, perfect for the Summer to Fall transition! With the wide, stretchy, and non-restricing waistband of the Peg Legs, these leggings couldn’t be any more comfortable. I might as well be wearing pajamas!

I love that this fabric really takes this tunic up a notch, and makes it even more versatile! Since it’s a lighter weight jersey knit, it is absolutely comfortable enough to wear all day while running errands or driving the kids around. The sequins definitely dress it up a bit, and I would totally wear this to a social event, school programs, or out on date night!

The sequins do affect the stretch of the fabric as you would expect, so I wouldn’t use this fabric on a pattern that is more fitted. For this flowing a-line tunic, it worked perfectly! I couldn’t be happier with the way this top came out, and I’m thrilled to start off my fall wardrobe with it! A special thank you to Stylish Fabric for allowing me to try out this lovely fabric!

  1. You already know I absolutely LOVE this shirt. I love when I look “dressed” and yet feel like I’m in my pajamas and this feels like one of those outfits! I still haven’t committed to which color way of this fabric I need, but I know I NEED it.

    1. Thank you Ti! You are exactly right about this outfit – comfy enough to be pj’s, but I actually look dressed! I’m pretty sure I need at least 2-3 of the other colors of this fabric! 🙂

  2. That is a very cute tunic. Manages to be both fancy and neutral, the sort of thing you can wear practically anywhere. Nice job!

  3. I’m such a sucker for solid colors! I love that this stays monochromatic but the sequins add a little oomph to it without yelling, “LOOK AT THESE SEQUINS!!” 🙂 This looks lovely on you.

  4. How did I miss this fabric when browsing the Stylish Fabric website?!?!? What an awesome find. You look fantastic and bonus points for a secret pajamas outfit–stylish and appropriate, yet just as comfortable as pajamas.

  5. I love everything about this outfit! I am going to learn how to sew so I can make cute/functional outfits like this 🙂
