Hey there, I’m back! Look at that, two posts in one day! New Horizons Designs (formerly Terra’s Treasures), has released a women’s raglan pattern that will blow your mind! The options are literally endless (ok, not literally, but you know what I mean). Terra has been known to add several amazing variations within a single pattern, and that is always a good thing! More bang for your buck, that’s for sure. Not only are there numerous options, but the fit is great as well! It’s amazing to witness the testing process and see how much work really goes into making a pattern. Terra worked endlessly to make sure everything was just right, and all of her efforts were well worth it! Here is a line drawing that illustrates the different options you can use to mix and match to create an amazing shirt!

Holy options, Batman! Seriously though, isn’t that amazing? You could fill your closet year-round with a single pattern and have a huge variety of looks. Depending on your fabric choice, you could go super casual or a little dressier, and I plan on making some in athletic fabric for workout tops! They’re comfortable, flattering, and such a quick sew with the raglan sleeve! I see endless fabric combinations in my head (mostly involving lots of gorgeous florals!) and I can’t wait to get more sewn up. One thing that makes the Riviera Raglan stand out from the other raglan patterns in PDF-world is the high-cut raglan option in addition to the standard raglan. It really adds a fun little flair to the typical raglan sleeve top. And don’t even get me started on that awesome crossover hood and the thumb hole cuffs!
For my top, I did a short sleeve, tunic length, crew neck, standard raglan. I made an XL graded out to XXL at the waist, and back down to XL. Since it’s more of a slightly relaxed, forgiving fit, I think I will just do a straight XL next time. (in the photo above, you can see that I have a little excess fabric sticking out right below the bust line where I graded out) For the body of my Riviera, I used this amazing Nicole Miller Rayon Spandex from Joann. I love it so much! It’s so fun, vibrant, and funky. For the sleeves and the neckband, I used a solid black cotton/lycra.
I adore the curved hem tunic length – it’s perfect for wearing with leggings. Leggings and tunics are basically my go-to “mom-iform”, which is a uniform for a mom in case you’ve never heard the term 🙂 I feel like I’m wearing pajamas, but I look at least a little more put-together than that!
Here are all of the specifics of the Riviera Raglan Pattern:
- Sizes XXS-3X (full bust 29”-51.5”)
- Regular Hem
- Banded Hem
- Curved Hem Tunic
- Handkerchief Hem
- Tank, Short, ¾, or Long Sleeves
- Crew neck
- Slit Neck
- Regular cuff or Thumb Hole Cuff
- Optional Breast Pocket & Triangle Accent
Terra has also put so much work into creating an amazing PDF. It is full of information and so easy to navigate through all of those amazing options! Let me tell you, that’s not always an easy feat with the amount of variations! But the instructions are clear and so simple to understand.
The tutorial is full of computer drawn images that are helpful in visualizing each step. The sizes are layered so you can print only the size(s) you want & need to print, and the pages are trimless. There are also clickable buttons at the bottom of each page of the PDF that will take you directly to the step or section that you need to go to! I seriously love that feature! It makes navigation on a smartphone or tablet ridiculously easy. She’s also included a printing chart, which is especially nice since there are so many options to choose from. In the PDF, you will also find Tips for Sewing with Knits and an awesome sewing term Glossary at the end. It honestly couldn’t really get any better!
