Once Upon a Pixel Blog Tour

Can you believe how quickly the holidays have arrived? I know I can’t, but I’m happy to say I have one handmade gift crossed off my list! This darling little cross-stitched princess can be found in the brand new book, Once Upon a Pixel from Sugaridoo & Studio Koekoek.  This book is filled with enchanting pixel projects that even beginners can tackle, and I’m so excited to share it with you today! I’ll also be giving a copy of the e-book away, so don’t forget to enter the Rafflecopter at the end of this post.

To be truthful, I am not a cross-stitcher, quilter, or crocheter; but, when I saw the magical projects included in this book, I jumped at the opportunity to be a part of the blog tour! Once Upon a Pixel is packed with 20 irresistible pixel projects that are straight out of a modern fairy tale.

For my review, I decided to give cross-stitching a try. Isn’t this princess so sweet? I love everything about her from her crown down to her heels! This is literally my first ever cross-stitch project, so I am a complete beginner. Which means if you’ve never cross-stitched before, you can make this too!

This darling girl is teeny tiny – that’s only a 3″ hoop! (Perfect for a Christmas ornament, by the way!) and I figured that such a small project would be a breeze. I was pretty surprised that I ended up spending about 6 hours stitching her up! I guess that’s just how hand stitching goes 🙂 I do love the end result, and the amount of detail in this little lady.

The book was fantastic and included a page on cross-stitching for beginners, and even had tips on how to frame your finished project. The patterns are clearly laid out and the different colors and stitches are marked clearly as well. There was a color chart with the DMC thread colors needed, which made shopping for supplies a breeze! I did have to do a little googling to convert cm to inches, but all in all, the instructions and supply lists were thorough!

I decided to frame my finished work in a 3″ embroidery hoop, attach a ribbon, and hang her on our Christmas tree! My daughter loves this little princess and it really makes for a nice, heirloom-quality Christmas gift! I can’t wait to stitch up the Knight and the Prince for my two boys and hang them on the tree along with this princess!

What I really love about this book is that there are so many possibilities. The same pattern I used for this cross-stitch pattern can also be made as a quilt or a pillow! And there are several other characters to choose from to complete a fairy tale collection. Irene & Gerda really did an amazing job with these enchanting projects and I’m happy to have had the opportunity to review the book!

  1. I haven’t done any crossstitch in years! I think this Christmas ornament has sparked my interest again, it’s just too cute!
