I was so happy to be invited to be a part of the Riley Blake Designs Charming fabric Blog Tour. This line designed by Gerri Robinson of Planted Seed Designs, is really so gorgeous!
The line features a gorgeous range of muted blues and taupes, and I especially adore all of the floral prints! There are other nice coordinating prints as well that really round out the collection. The quality of the fabric is wonderful – it was so nice to work with!
These are the 4 prints I decided to work with for this project:
Since most of the other blog tour stops have or will be featuring quilting projects, I decided to sew up an apparel project. It’s always fun to see a fabric being used different ways, and can help you see the collection from a totally new angle! I love all of the different shades of blues in this line and I think it worked really well for this outfit.
I created this outfit using all FREE patterns! I am definitely willing to pay good money for a good pattern, but it’s nice to find really great free patterns sometimes, too!
The pattern I used for the skirt is called Gracie’s Pocket Skirt by Simple Life Pattern Co. The coupon code to make the pattern free can be found in the pinned post of their Facebook Group. I love the big pockets on this skirt (of course Maci did, too) and it was the perfect pattern to showcase coordinating fabric prints!
The only change I made to the skirt was to use a binding on the top edge of the pocket instead of a ruffle. The little pleat on the pocket adds a fun little detail as well!
The capelet pattern is also from SLPco and is called Juliette’s Capelet. This is a fun layering piece that’s perfect for transitioning to fall. It’s totally reversible and includes instructions to make your own bias tape. It would be fun to sew it up with faux fur or minky on one side to make it extra cozy!
For the hairbows, I used my Sailor Hair Bow pattern in the baby/pigtail size! I love sewing these up to coordinate with an outfit since they’re so quick & cute! I previously only had the SVG cut file available for these bows, but I decided to convert them into a printable PDF pattern as well for those who don’t own a Cricut Maker! Yay!! You can find the free PDF Pattern for the hair bows → HERE.
I love how this outfit turned out, I think it would work perfectly for fall family photos! And I’m really loving this gorgeous Charming fabric line, I had so much fun sewing it up!
